“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen” (Matt. 6:9-13, KJV).

Key 6

Jesus said, “Give us this day our daily bread” (v. 11). I cannot pray effectively unless 1) I know Him, 2) I know my citizenship, 3) I know worship, 4) I’m living in the kingdom and 5) I know His mind, His will. Then and only then are my petitions, my requests, heard because the next thing Jesus said is, “Give us this day our daily bread.” This tells me that once I have right relationship, right citizenship, right worship and His kingdom and His Word in my life, I can bring my petitions.

Philippians 4:6 says God wants to know the details of your needs. The Scripture says, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Now when Paul said “everything,” he meant tell God the details in your petitions.

Most people begin making petitions before they even know who they’re talking to. That’s the problem. We have to develop what I’ve just been writing about. And the Lord Jesus put it perfectly in order. He said you couldn’t make petitions until everything was in place. Then you make your petitions known to Him.

Key 7

After you bring your petitions, which God will hear, Jesus said, “Forgive us our debts” (v. 12). Just what does that mean? This is actually quite powerful. It is the only thing that brings answers to the petitions. You make your requests, and then you forgive to receive answers to your requests. Without forgiveness, you can forget about getting the answer. You can pray all you want, but if you are not doing what the Lord said to do, it will not work.

Key 8

Jesus said, “Lead us not into temptation” (v. 13). After forgiveness comes deliverance, meaning we don’t do it again. We don’t confess and then keep confessing because we are not free yet. True deliverance follows all the other things in Jesus’ prayer. How can you be delivered if you do not know God, know your citizenship, develop your worship and commit to the principles I just showed you? Without total obedience, there is no way to be delivered. You are still living in an old kingdom until you decide you are ready to completely obey God.

Key 9

Jesus said, “Deliver us from evil” or the evil one (v. 13). That is a prayer of strength, and that is when we receive deliverance from the schemes of the devil. That is when we are able to resist the devil.

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).

Key 10

Jesus prayed, “For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory” (v. 13). In this way, He seals the prayer again with praise. Praise finishes our process. We thank Him, we praise Him, we bless His name for hearing us.

I pray that you will take what you have learned here, apply it and continue to move forward into a deeper measure of His presence and His power that is pure and personal, walking in an unbroken flow of His precious anointing.

“Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen” (Jude 24-25). {eoa}
