Why Your Kingdom Service Must Come Without Condition

Is your service to God rooted in conditions? If it is, Dr. Steve Greene says, you may need to repent and ask God to transform your heart and mind.

“A lot of us say that we’re in a service ministry, but we put conditions on our work,” Dr. Greene said on a recent episode of “Greenelines” on the Charisma Podcast Network. “Many times we will say, ‘I will do this for you, but then will you do this for me.’ That’s just not a godly way of going at it. It’s just not a kingdom principle.

“Kingdom servants don’t attend to their work with a list of conditions. I don’t come to help you or serve you, or speak at your church or work with you in some way in business, and then have a big list of conditions. We just work to help each other. We work as one who’s called by God, to serve and to give back. The reward is the service. It’s not the conditional response that I hope I get.

“Luke 9:61 says, ‘Yet another said, Lord, I will follow you. but let me first go bid farewell to those at my house.’ The man here speaking to the Lord was connecting, ‘I will, but first I need to do this.’ ‘I will serve’ is connected to ‘let me first go.’ ‘I will serve you’ is connected to ‘but only if you serve me back.’

“Can you hear it? It’s conditional. ‘I’ll do it. But only if you do this.’ We’ve all got to be cautious of spoken or unspoken condition. Luke 9:62 says, ‘Jesus said to him, no one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back at things is fit for the kingdom of God.’

“This is not about what you need. It’s about what you are willing to do in service.”
