How to Decree, Declare Your God-Given Dreams Over Your Family

Share:

“It seems my entire life I’ve been on a mission to empower ordinary people, people like you and me, to find their voice and make it heard in extraordinary ways.”

Best-selling author Cindy Trimm uses this line to open her book Hello, Tomorrow! The Transformational Power of Vision (Charisma House, 2018) which released on Sept. 4. As a sought-after empowerment specialist, Trimm has dedicated her life to helping people build the bridge between who they are now and who they aspire to be.

But her message is more than a platform; it’s a personal conviction. Vision is what turned the tide for Trimm. She and her six siblings were raised by a single mother in a leaky, rat-infested house in Bermuda. As a child, Trimm didn’t know any better.

She says in an interview on Sid Roth’s It’s Supernatural!, “I didn’t know there was something else to want. Until God came into my life and showed it to me.”

When she gave her heart to the Lord at 17, everything changed. God showed her that He had so much more planned for her life. She just needed to believe it.

“I read in the Scripture that you can decree a thing and it shall be established,” Trimm says. “And I took the Word literally.”

One day, as her family argued over how they would pay their mounting bills, Trimm stepped forward and declared that they would be out of poverty and out of their ramshackle house. She decreed that they would overcome their circumstances.

As she discovered, by articulating what her family longed for, Trimm was able to set them on the path to prosperity. Six months later, not only did they move into a beachside estate, but all of Trimm’s family members dedicated their lives to God. Trimm was overjoyed. And as she later discovered, this was only the beginning.

Having seen how God uses spoken declarations to shift her thinking and propel her forward, Trimm went on to encourage her mentees to verbalize their future. Her best-selling book Commanding Your Morning (Charisma House, 2007) directs readers to put words to what they desire for their future.

“No matter how good or bad your life is, every circumstance can change for the best if you learn how to command your morning before your day even begins,” Trimm says.

Hello, Tomorrow! is the sequel, in which Trimm emphasizes how having a vision is not just a self-help tool. It’s a spiritual discipline. God gives us visions to pursue, and we glorify Him in our perseverance. Trimm calls it “grititude,” or an attitude of grit. She writes on how chasing a dream requires a step out of one’s own comfort zone.

She references Scripture as an example of when God promised blessing to those who dare to leave the familiar:

Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country, your family, and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless them who bless you and curse him who curses you, and in you all families of the earth will be blessed.” So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken to him (Gen. 12:1-4a).

Trimm emphasizes that we too have new frontiers waiting to be discovered. We just need to craft our vision, give that vision a voice and discover our new frontier. {eoa}
