Texas Gov. Greg Abbott confirmed 10 people were killed and 10 were wounded when suspect Dimitrios Pagourtzis allegedly opened fire in Santa Fe High School in Galveston County, Texas.

“We look to God to give the first responders as well as the victims and their families the guidance they need in the coming days and weeks as we work to continue to get to the bottom of what happened,” Abbott said in a press conference that also included Sen. Ted Cruz.

“Texas has seen the face of evil,” Cruz says.

Local police also reported multiple bombs in and around the school.

“We need to do more than just pray for the victims and their families. It’s time in Texas that we take action to step up and make sure this tragedy is never repeated ever again in the history in the state of Texas,” Abbott said.

He continued: “It’s impossible to describe the magnitude of the evil of someone who would attack innocent children in a school.”

Abbott ordered flags be lowered to half-mast to honor the victims of the attack.

“The First Lady and I extend our prayers of comfort to the survivors and the families of the victims and we will continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers,” Abbott wrote in the directive.

Abbott addressed gun control at the recent National Rifle Association convention.

“The answer to gun violence is not to take guns away, the answer is to strengthen the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens,” Abbott said at the beginning of May “The problem is not guns; it’s hearts without God.”

Texas officials charged Pagourtzis with murder.
