Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal is taking a stand for Israel. Deal officially proclaimed his stance on Aug. 14 at the Americans United with Israel event in Georgia.

In his proclamation, Deal writes:

“In recent years, Jews, Christians and Georgians of all walks of life have rallied in support of Israel and have gone to Capitol Hill with members of Congress sponsoring and voting for legislation favorable to Israel…

“Since the legal establishment of the State of Israel, its people have been subjected to continual terrorist activities, attacks and wars by its neighbors dedicated to the delegitimization of Israel. It is the moral right and duty for any legally established nation to defend and protect its people, its capital and its borders …”

Americans United with Israel was founded to organize a peaceful expression of U.S. support for Israel. Rather than a religious expression, it’s an American expression.

“We support the Israeli Government’s call for peace including recognition of a Jewish State for the Jewish people and a compromise reflecting the dramatic demographic changes that have occurred since 1967,” the event organizers explain on their website. “We support Israel’s call to Hamas to allow the International Committee of the Red Cross to visit captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit and bring signs of life to his family. We will stand in support of Israel, the Jewish State, as a beacon of democracy in the Middle East.”
