Somebody Cares America Network Mobilizes for Tornado Response

Somebody Cares and our network partners are mobilizing in response to deadly tornadoes that ripped through Kentucky and surrounding states last Friday night.

At least 18 tornadoes left behind hundreds of miles of destruction and a death toll by Monday morning of at least 90 and rising. In Kentucky, one tornado touched the ground for over 220 miles—the longest track in recorded history.

Over 100 workers were trapped in a candle factory in Mayfield, Kentucky, where one of the workers sent out an urgent plea for help through social media after the roof collapsed. She and some of her co-workers were rescued from under five feet of debris.

State and federal disasters have been declared for the state where the death toll now stands at 64, with 100 people still unaccounted for. Fatalities also occurred in Illinois, Arkansas, Tennessee and Missouri.

Somebody Cares America Field Representative Mark Roye has arrived in the area to assess where the greatest unmet needs are and determine a base of operations. Network partner CRI is in Bowling Green, Kentucky and partner United Rescue Alliance is deploying to Martin, Tennessee.

Your gift today will help us provide immediate on-the-ground assistance for these devastated communities. A donation of $50, $100, $500 or any amount will provide much-needed relief, hope and the message that Somebody Cares to tornado victims.

“We are in constant contact with our partners to determine the best way to meet the needs and direct resources,” says Somebody Cares America founder and President Doug Stringer. “It’s just heartbreaking to see such a tragedy, especially during the holidays. There is going to be a need for a long-term ministry of presence. Be praying for all those we are working with and all those lost family and loved ones.”

Please pray for all those impacted by this horrific tragedy, compounded by cold temperatures and turning a joyful holiday season into a time of mourning. {eoa}
