Do You Have What It Takes to Be a Kingdom Political Leader?

Aamon Ross had never much cared for politics. He wanted to make a difference in the world for the Lord, but had never considered the political arena.

But when a friend and successful business colleague of his decided to run for governor in Oklahoma in 2018, Ross felt compelled to get involved, and became Kevin Stitt’s campaign manager. The next thing he knew, Stitt, a dedicated Christian like Ross, had won the governorship.

Indeed, Ross had made a difference for the kingdom, and Oklahoma now has a believer to lead the state. Ross says it’s a great example of what could happen if many Christians decided to take a risk and run for political office—a decision that could turn the tide of the dark direction in which this country is headed.

Ross began a online curriculum called Kingdom in Politics, a series of nonpartisan training programs designed to prepare and inspire believers to take an active role in politics. He says for many in the church, politics has become a “forgotten space,” and that when we lead with kingdom ideals, our nation will prosper.”

“If the last few years have taught us anything, it’s that we’re doing a terrible job of raising up leaders,” Ross, the host of the Kingdom in Politics podcast told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of Greenelines on the Charisma Podcast Network. “As I meet with pastors, I asked them, ‘can you think of four or five people in your congregation that would be incredible leaders in public service?’ Every time I ask that, they say, ‘Absolutely, I have the five names right here.’

“So, I ask them, ‘what are you doing to steward those people who are called into the political sector?’ The answer is always ‘nothing.’ And for good reason. Everyone is starting to wake up to the idea that wow, we haven’t been at the table, and now we’re on the menu. So, everyone is talking about the problem and what can we do, but then the next step is how do you become part of the solution? So, that’s kind of where my mission began, to create a solution.”

Kingdom in Politics contains a course in how believers can go about running for office and how to run a campaign. Whether it’s local city government or your local school board, where kingdom leaders are sorely needed right now, Ross’ program can get you started, whether or not you have any experience.

“God can use our wins and he can use our losses,” Ross says. “We just have to have the courage to say yes and take that next step. That’s what will change the course of history for the next generation.”
