Bishop Slams Pelosi’s Push for ‘Child Sacrifice’

Nancy Pelosi’s enthusiasm and fervor for the radical Women’s Health Protection Act has not escaped the attention of kingdom leaders in her own backyard, including her own bishop, who referred to the piece of legislation as “child sacrifice.”

The archbishop of San Francisco, Salvatore Cordileone, in a statement Wednesday called for a “massive and visible campaign of prayer and fasting for the conversion of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) heart,” Fox News reported.

“Witness the House of Representatives’ passage of HR 3755, which would impose abortion on demand nationwide at any stage of pregnancy,” Cordileone said in the statement. “A conversion of heart of the majority of our congressional representatives is needed on this issue, beginning with the leader of the House, Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

“I am therefore inviting all Catholics to join in a massive and visible campaign of prayer and fasting for Speaker Pelosi: commit to praying one rosary a week and fasting on Fridays for her conversion of heart.”

Upon learning of Cordileone’s “child sacrifice” reference, Pelosi immediately dismissed his comments.

“The archbishop of that city of that area of San Francisco and I had a disagreement about who should decide this [family size and timing],” she told Fox News. “I believe that God has given us a free will to honor our responsibilities.”

Cordileone called the bill “misnamed” and said it’s “shameful that any self-professed Catholic would be implicated in such an evil, let alone advocate for it.”

The Women’s Health Protection Act “provides protections for pregnant people seeking an abortion and medical professionals who provide abortions. The law would effectively eliminate any medically unnecessary restrictions on abortion such as mandatory counseling, ultrasounds, birth certificates and fetal remain burials,” according to The National Women’s Health Network website.

Pelosi and others especially became aggressive in pursuing this bill after the passage and implementation of the Texas Heartbeat bill last month. A conservative majority in the Supreme Court has also accelerated discussion about the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which has been in place since 1973.

Both Pelosi and President Joe Biden are Catholics but both adamantly support a woman’s right to choose to have an abortion.

A section of the Catholic Catechism teaches that humans “ought to use their free will to reject sin,” of which abortion is included. In discussing abortion, the Catechism says that the “prodcedure and infanticide are abominable crimes.”

Cordileone says Pelosi speaks fondly of her children and has a maternal heart but says she should simply reject abortion.

“Pope Francis has called abortion murder, the equivalent of hiring a hitman to solve a problem,” Cordileone says in his statement. “The solution to a woman in a crisis pregnancy is not violence but love. Please join me in praying … and fasting for a conversion of Speaker Pelosi’s maternal heart to embracing the goodness and dignity of human life not only after birth, but in the womb as well.” {eoa}
