World Help Captures the Uprooted Lives of Ukraine Refugees

Exactly a week after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Virginia-based nonprofit World Help already has a team on the ground at the Ukraine border in Poland. The team will support local partners with humanitarian relief efforts and will be collecting photos, videos and stories of displaced families on the front lines of this refugee crisis.

World Help's unique approach to humanitarian aid involves partnering with local organizations that best understand the culture and need. World Help has partners in Poland as well as inside Ukraine, and this team will be working directly with them to learn about the immediate needs of the Ukrainian people.

"My heart is breaking for the people of Ukraine right now," President Noel Brewer Yeatts said. "Over a million refugees have already fled the country. When we hear that, it's easy to dismiss it as a statistic. But these are real people, real families that have been uprooted and torn apart. Every one of them has a story that needs to be told."

The team hopes to bring the human element of the refugee crisis to the forefront and mobilize support as the situation worsens. The videos and refugee stories the team reports on will be featured on World Help's social media accounts and blog.

"We're committed to helping our partners and all the people affected by this tragedy," Yeatts said. "When we can be on the ground, we see and understand the need more clearly. I hope this trip will help other people see it as well."
