Texas Lt. Gov. Makes Plea to Americans to 'Take Hold of Our Country' and to Read 2 Chronicles 7:14

In the wake of one of the most horrific school shootings the United States has ever seen, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick says the character of this country must change right now—and there's only one way to do that.

"There are people in this country who are not believers, and that's fine, I respect their right not to believe," Patrick told Fox News' Laura Ingraham in an interview earlier this week. "But for those of us who are Christians, we need to take hold of our country, and we do that through prayer.

"You cannot change the culture of a country without changing the character of the people, and you cannot change character without changing your heart. And you cannot do that without turning to God."

On Tuesday, an 18-year-old gunman entered Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, and proceeded to shoot and kill 19 children and two teachers. The unspeakable tragedy has rocked the core of this nation in the midst of deep-seated division and hatred in a culture that is slowly but surely deteriorating into the hands of the enemy (Satan).

"The problem is much larger than the infrastructure, the gun issue or the mental health issue," Patrick said. "At the end of the day, we are becoming a sick society. We are at each other's throats all of the time. Everywhere you look, whether it's on the internet or in every other walk of life, we have to look at ourselves and ask who we are.

"I do believe that we are a godly nation and a nation of godly people. We need to pray, and we need to make changes. Everyone tonight should read 2 Chronicles 7:14. Go to the middle of the Bible, turn right, and there is 2 Chronicles 7:14. Christians have to pray for God to heal our land. We have to take a stand."

Second Chronicles 7:14 (MEV) reads, "If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

On top of the school shooting, Joe Garcia—the husband of Irma Garcia, one of the teachers who died Tuesday—died Thursday from a heart attack, leaving behind four children. Irma Garcia died while trying to protect her fourth grade students.

The couple had been married for 24 years.

A total of 10 people were fatally wounded and three others were shot in Buffalo, New York, only days earlier in what appears to be a racially motivated crime.

To make the situation in Uvalde worse, Democratic governor candidate Beto O'Rourke interrupted a press conference held by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in what appeared to be a politically motivated incident. During his impromptu interruption, O'Rourke chastised Abbott, saying, "The time to stop the next shooting is right now, and you're doing nothing. You're offering us nothing. You said, 'This is not predictable.' This is totally predictable when you choose not to do anything."

O'Rourke was immediately escorted out of the building by police.

"Can't we have just one day, one week, one month of all of us coming together for these children, when it's not a political stunt?" Patrick asked Ingraham. "Where is our humanity? What we found out was Beto O'Rourke is more interested in his political ambitions than he is about these families. That is the tragedy of his behavior. He showed he really doesn't care about these people. ... For him to do that, I just dismiss him. America dismisses him, and Texas dismisses him."
