The Rock for President? ‘Fast and Furious’ Actor Teases Possibility of Run—Again

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, star of Jumanji, the Fast and Furious films and Disney’s Moana, teased the possibility of running for president, if that’s “what the people want.”

The film star and former professional wrestler has hinted in the past a potential bid for the highest seat of power in America but has never confirmed an official run. He appeared on a recent Today interview, in which host Willie Geist asked, “Could the people’s champ become the people’s president?”

Following a recent Piplsay poll which reveals 46% of Americans would support The Rock’s presidential bid, the actor replied via Twitter:

In the instance where Hollywood meets the Oval Office with Johnson’s run for president, the poll reveals 40% of Millennials would support the candidacy, though Will Smith takes the top spot for preferred celebrity candidates.

“I do have that goal to unite our country and I also feel that if this is what the people want, then I will do that,” Johnson said during the Today interview.

“A united country, as we know, is its strongest,” he continued. “I want to see that for our country.”

Supporters launched dwayneforpresident.com to advocate for the actor’s campaign, should the idea take root in action. “We need a leader who will inspire. A leader who understands adversity, but embodies determination, power and accomplishment,” the homepage reads.

In a column for The Washington Post, Alyssa Rosenberg wrote that “Johnson could be the sort of person the GOP tries to renovate into a viable candidate.”

The actor also noted his preparation for recently aired autobiographical NBC sitcom Young Rock spurred his desire to learn more about the office of the president, as he portrays himself campaigning for the 2032 election. {eoa}
