Retired NBA great Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna were killed in a helicopter crash Sunday in California, according to Fox News. He was 41, and his daughter was 13.
Bryant was reportedly on a helicopter flying over Calabasas, about 30 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. TMZ Sports first reported that Bryant was killed. FOX Sports also confirmed his death in the crash. Five people were reported killed in the accident.
The City of Calabasas released the following official statement:
It is with great sadness that we learn of the death of Kobe Bryant and four others in a helicopter crash in Calabasas. The aircraft went down in a remote field off Las Virgenes around 10:00 this morning. Nobody on the ground was hurt.
