Beth Moore, among other Christian leaders, is asking for prayer on behalf of Rachel Held Evans, a leading figure on the Christian left.
Evans, the author of Searching for Sunday and Inspired, is in a medically induced coma after doctors discovered she was experiencing constant seizures.
Let's get this straight. We don't have to change our stand to kneel & pray. Good Lord. Just pray, for crying out loud. RHE needs PRAYER! If we're only going to pray for people we line up with doctrinally, we're going to have the shortest quiet times in the history of the church.— Beth Moore (@BethMooreLPM) April 23, 2019
Do not bother ating me. It will be a colossal waste of your time. Use it to pray for Rachel instead.— Beth Moore (@BethMooreLPM) April 23, 2019
Other believers, including Pentecostals, are sharing their prayers on social media with the hashtag #PrayForRHE.
My heart is still so heavy for my friend @rachelheldevans & her family. During our Easter service last night at the Table, @WilliamMatt22 led us in a powerful time of prophetic prayer over her. I wanted to share it with you here, to encourage you as we continue to #PrayForRHE: pic.twitter.com/Bh5sWOsnMU— Jonathan Martin (@theboyonthebike) April 22, 2019
Gracious God,— Kate Bowler (@KatecBowler) April 19, 2019
You give us the absurd dignity of prayer, to cry to the void and beg you to act. Please heal and be near to our friend @rachelheldevans that you comfort her dearest humans, and give wisdom to her medical team. And peace, peace, peace to all who love her #PrayforRHE
My English Novel class prayed for you today, @rachelheldevans.— Karen Swallow Prior (@KSPrior) April 19, 2019
We are reading Tess of the D'Urbervilles, a book I remember that you love.
We are rooting for you as we root for Tess! Thankfully, the God of this world intervenes for us. #PrayForRHE

I am holding space and praying for you, dear woman. May you be healed, you who have healed so many others.
I've scrapped intensely with the progressive Christian writer Rachel Held Evans, but I'm grieved to hear that she is in the hospital in grave condition this Easter weekend. Please pray for her, and her family!— Rod Dreher (@roddreher) April 19, 2019
Evans' husband, Daniel, posts regular updates on Evans' blog.
On April 23, he wrote: "The news today is about the same as yesterday. Rachel is still in the ICU in a medically induced coma. Sarah Bessey, Jeff Chu, and Jim Chaffee started a GoFundMe campaign for us. With unknown financial obligations pending this is a great practical encouragement to our family. Thank you again to everyone who has donated their time and resources and offered their thoughts and prayers. Rachel would have a really beautiful way to say all of this."
