A woman was killed Tuesday night during a carjacking in New Orleans. One church says she was a "great woman of God" and is rebuking spirits of crime in the wake of her murder, according to reports.

Jeannot Plessy, a 49-year-old pastor's wife, died when an unknown person threw her out of the car and ran over her with the vehicle. Her two pre-teen children reportedly saw her killed while her son-in-law tried to stop the carjacking.

Pastor Dennis Watson of Celebration Church released a statement about Plessy's death, identifying her as the victim of the fatal carjacking. Although Plessy attends Victory Fellowship, her daughter Nadia Sanchez and son-in-law Kristian both attend Celebration Church.

Watson said its congregation is praying for Plessy's family as well as praying that "the spirits of crime, violence and murder be overcome by God's presence and people."

Church officials say Plessy recently returned from a mission trip to Samoa.

"Such tragedies cause us to become overwhelmed by sadness and grief," Watson wrote. "We wonder, Why do such tragedies happen to good and godly people in our world? Most of the time, there are no answers to that question."
