A Maryland sheriff confirmed multiple fatalities after a gunman opened fire in the Annapolis Capital-Gazette offices.

Five people died, according to the latest reports, with several others “gravely injured.”

Anne Arundel County Sheriff Ron Bateman tells Shepard Smith that a suspect has been apprehended at the newspaper’s office, located on Bestgate Road, off Defense Highway in Parole, Maryland, a Fox affiliate reported.

“We’re doing the best we can. We’re doing everything we can to get people out safe and we’re trying to minimize the casualties,” Lt. Ryan Frashure, a spokesperson for the Anne Arundel County Police Department, tells CNN affiliate WJLA.
