Reuters news service has reported that the U.S. Secret Service said on Saturday it was responding to a report of a person with a self-inflicted gunshot wound along the north fence line of the White House.

President Donald Trump was away in Florida.

The Secret Service tweeted early Saturday afternoon that  "Secret Service personnel are responding to reports of a person who allegedly suffered a self-inflicted gun shot wound along the north fence line of @WhiteHouse."

"We are aware of the incident," deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley told CNN.com. "The President has been briefed. I refer you to the Secret Service for any more information."

CNN reported that the Secret Service tweeted an update soon after: "No other reported injuries related to the incident at @WhiteHouse."

CNN also reported that Secret Service spokeswoman Cathy Milhoan said the incident occurred on the north fence line, the victim suffered a single gunshot wound and Secret Service personnel did not fire any shots. She would not comment on the status of the victim.

The Secret Service tweeted that pedestrian and vehicular traffic around the White House has been affected by the incident.

A spokeswoman for the District of Columbia police said they were also responding to the report and declined further comment.
