The graduation ceremony at Liberty University on Saturday included some star guests. Just before New York Giants running back and Liberty alumnus Rashad Jennings gave the keynote address, President Jerry Falwell welcomed the makers of the new film Hacksaw Ridge, an American-Australian WWII drama.

Screenwriter/director Randall Wallace (Braveheart, Secretariat, We Were Soldiers) spoke briefly before inviting director Mel Gibson and actor Vince Vaughn to the stage.

It was only fitting for them to visit Liberty, as the film's inspiration, soldier Desmond T. Doss, was a native of Lynchburg. Wallace is also a Lynchburg native. The film, expected to release in November, tells Doss' story as he sought to honor God with peaceful actions in a time of war.
