In commemoration of Matthew 21, hundreds will gather in New Orleans to ignite a Passion for God unlike anything America has ever seen.

Among them, actor Shane Harper will play one of Jesus’ disciples in The Passion Live this Sunday.

“My relationship with the Lord drives everything in my life,” Harper tells Charisma News. “This is a really powerful way to communicate this story, communicate the love of Christ, but at the same time, it is a daring, much more modern-day, modern pop music telling (of the resurrection story). I’m so incredibly passionate to bring this story to people who might not go to church or might not be as familiar with this story, to meet people right where they’re at.”

Viewers may recognize Harper as the main character from God’s Not Dead, a film that arguably changed the landscape for Christian media.

Though the massive success of God’s Not Dead paved the way for higher-quality Christian entertainment, Harper says Christians in Hollywood don’t have to be in expressly labeled faith films to change the lives of those around them.

“I think faith-based (projects) can have a huge impact on culture, even without it being specifically faith-narrative driven,” Harper says. “Obviously Passion is straight out of Scripture … But Christians in media in general can be just as much as a light and just as much of a presence and have really big impact (on culture) even in projects that aren’t specifically faith-driven.”

But for events like Passion, the story of the gospel is at the forefront. With the partnership with Fox, Harper believes the Good News of Jesus has the potential to reach millions who would otherwise ignore God.

When Fox presented Grease Live, the network garnered a whopping 14 million viewers after delayed viewing.

NBC’s The Wiz netted 11 million.

And Sunday, Harper will be joined by Tyler Perry, Michael W. Smith, Seal, Trisha Yearwood and more to share the greatest love story ever told to an audience amplified beyond imagination.
