Nurses Call Delaware Abortion Clinic ‘Meat Market Assembly Line’

Testifying at a Delaware Senate hearing, two nurses said a Planned Parenthood clinic performed abortions like a “meat-market-style assembly line.”

Both nurses quit their positions with Planned Parenthood because of the terrible conditions in the two clinics.

Nurse Jayne Mitchell-Werbrich testified that her experience was “an absolute nightmare.”

“This type of care was something I had never seen before in my entire nursing career,” she told lawmakers. “On an average day at the Wilmington Planned Parenthood site one abortion would be completed every eight to 10 minutes.”

The second nurse, Joyce Vasikonis, said, “What I found was that the culture at Planned Parenthood of Delaware was focused on maximizing profits and the bottom line—not quality health care for women.”

Both nurses say they are not opposed to abortion, but they are opposed to the poor practices in the clinics.

State Attorney General Beau Biden’s office has filed a complaint against one of the doctors in the clinics.

The state’s medical licensing officials accused Dr. Timothy F. Liveright of engaging in “unprofessional, disrespectful and inappropriate conduct,” which reportedly included sexual harassment of female employees.

Liveright, 68, who performed abortions at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Wilmington, voluntarily surrendered his medical license in Delaware last month, saying he “retired from practicing medicine in Delaware and had  no intentions of ever seeking to practice there in the future.”

Officials say he represents a “clear and immediate danger to the public.”

“They’re jumping on whatever they can jump on,” Liveright said. “I don’t know what their agenda is, but I don’t think I’m a danger to the public.”

He’s accused of multiple acts of incompetence and negligence, specifically citing abortions performed between Feb. 12 and March 13 this year.

Charges against him include oversedating patients, performing unnecessary suction procedures and failing to act in a way that would avoid unnecessary complications for patients.

But, one of the nurses says Liveright was only a small part of the problem.

Planned Parenthood says it takes swift action to correct problems. But senators from both parties say the clinics need tighter regulation.
