Pastors and Christian leaders from around the country came together this week for final planning stages of a national prayer event meant to address the "moral depravity" in the United States today.

The "America for Jesus" rally is set for Sept. 28-29 in Philadelphia.

Rep. Randy Forbes, a leader in the Congressional Prayer Caucus, spoke to organizers about how critical it is to take prayer to the public square.

"We end up getting in buildings by ourselves, and we lift up God, and we pray," he said this week in Virginia Beach, Va.

"We talk about the importance of prayer, while they're out there ripping our school system a part, ripping our military apart spiritually, and changing the very core architecture of this nation that was founded on biblical principles," he continued.

At least 30,000 people are expected to attend the event, which kicks off just 40 days before voters head to the polls for the U.S. presidential election.

But Anne Gimenez, pastor of Rock Church in Virginia Beach and chair of "America for Jesus," said this isn't about relying on politics or people to change the United States.

"We don't feel a man can save America," Giminez said in July, referring to the presidential contenders. "God is our only hope."

She added that Philadelphia was chosen as the city to hold the event because of its link to America's independence.
