This Organization Has Rescued 74,000 Israeli Women’s Babies

EFRAT has empowered over 74,000 Israeli women to save their unborn babies.

Tragically, 40,000 pregnancies are still terminated in Israel each year, meaning that more than 100 lives are lost this way every day.

EFRAT is the organization that helps women to keep their pregnancies. With the backing of Torah leaders across the religious spectrum, EFRAT launches its annual life-saving appeal.

The key impact of EFRAT’s services is that women are enabled to make their own choice: with EFRAT’s support, they are empowered through access to information, funding, and the security of knowing that they are not alone.

At present, EFRAT is able to offer its support to approximately 4,000 women each year.

The significance of the name EFRAT:

Parashat Shemot (“Names”, the first portion in the book of Exodus) is dedicated as a “Shabbat of national awareness and fundraising” for EFRAT’s work. Parashat Shemot tells us of the difficult life under Pharaoh’s rule. Yet Miriam, the sister of Moses, risked her own life to save Jewish children.  Going above and beyond to save the lives of babies, she brought mothers food and drink so that they could feed their children. So she was granted an additional name, Efrat, which comes from “peru u’revu”, meaning “to populate the world.”

Who could have imagined that in our generation and in our own country, after 3,300 years, there would still be the need to save Jewish babies from annihilation?

For 41 years, EFRAT has been active in bringing life and light to thousands of Jewish homes by helping women keep their pregnancies.

The main reason today that women in Israel consider terminating their pregnancy is financial distress. Financial struggle brings thousands of prospective mothers to the brink of a decision to end their child’s life.

EFRAT supports women with the help of hundreds of volunteers, some of whom have been in this heart-wrenching position themselves. The organization commits to supporting women emotionally as well as practically, delivering equipment and supplies directly to their home at the time of the birth and for 24 months after the birth.

Many happy mothers send their testimonies to EFRAT:

Your incredible help and support gave me the strength to continue my pregnancy despite all the struggles I faced at the time. Today I cannot describe how happy I am that I didn’t give up.”

When a pregnancy is unplanned and unexpected, the shock is dramatic. My emotions were all over the place and I felt intense anxiety. EFRAT sent us the most amazing volunteer who accompanied me the whole way. Not one day goes past without me silently thanking her.”

EFRAT’s work needs funds.

The organization cannot currently provide support to all the women who need it.  Your contribution is crucial. Every bit of help leads to another life saved. With a sum of $1,200, EFRAT can support a woman and help her save her baby; a baby who will grow up to be a thriving member of his or her family and society as a whole.

We ask you to become partners in saving Jewish children. In these times, when our people continue to be attacked, it is our duty to stand in solidarity to save lives, together.

Please take advantage of the end of the current financial year to receive tax returns of up to 35 percent on contributions to EFRAT.

We thank you and bless you, and wish that, in the merit of this Mitzva, you will see tremendous joy and grace in your lives.
