Dr. King’s Niece Agrees: Democrats, Republicans Must Pitch In to Save America

The fourth Republican presidential debate was informative, offering another opportunity for Americans to hear more about the policies of several candidates. One candidate hit home by saying that it will take both Democrats and Republicans to redirect the course of our country. While I wholeheartedly believe that transformation must come from agreement in both corridors, I would add that we the people of America must turn back to God. As the field narrows, let’s pray that this message will resonate more and more.

There is yet another Republican debate in December. Also, in Columbia, South Carolina, on Nov. 21, just before Thanksgiving weekend, the 2015 Presidential Justice Forum will open the floor to several presidential candidates.

This week’s Presidential debate focused on economic issues. Front-runner Dr. Ben Carson boldly included abortion in his closing statement: “In the two hours of this debate, five people have died from drug-related deaths, $100 million has been added to our national debt, 200 babies have been killed by abortionists, and two veterans have taken their lives out of despair. This is a narrative that we can change, not we the Democrats, not we the Republicans, but we the people of America, because there is something special about this nation, and we must embrace it and be proud of it and never give it away for the sake of political correctness.”

In the context of Dr. Carson’s words, one could conclude that our economic problems are somehow linked to our moral brokenness.

Thank God for Dr. Carson’s courage to speak up for the voiceless. Although for some in the political arena, abortion has become a political football, Dr. Carson is at the top of a field of candidates who are not afraid to speak the truth about the injustice of abortion.

Only when truth is spoken and acted upon are we able to freely make the best choices, the primary choice being to choose to love our fellow human beings; the choice to love God rather than money; the choice to choose life over death. Agape love and life are keys to America’s success.

It is truly written: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

For over 50 years, America has been working to remove God from the public square and the hearts of the people. Consequently, America is facing upheaval with racism, abortion, violence against police, mass shootings, war, poverty, human trafficking, attacks on the natural family and so much more.

In order to successfully turn the tide, Americans must truly live out our creed and become one nation under God. Let’s pray—not so much to elect our favorites—but rather to unite as “we the people” and elect genuinely godly leaders in 2016.
