A Prominent American Muslim Has Declared 'Jihad' on President Trump

Linda Sarsour is best known as the more prominent of the co-chairs for the Women's March on Washington held the day after President Donald Trump's inauguration, and she has remained a vocal opponent of his presidency ever since.

But in comments she made last weekend at the 54th Annual Islamic Society of North America Convention in suburban Chicago, she took her opposition to a whole new level, declaring "a form of jihad" against not only the president, but also the "Islamophobes in the White House." Both ISNA and Sarsour have been linked to the terrorist organization Hamas.

Sarsour opened her speech by heaping praise on "her favorite person in the room," Imam Siraj Wahhaj—an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center—who she described as "a mentor, motivator and encourager." She then went into a 20-minute rant about the president and his administration.

"I hope, that when we stand up to those who oppress our communities, that Allah accepts from us that as a form of jihad," she said. "We are struggling against tyrants and rulers not only abroad. But here in the United States of America, where you have fascists and white supremacists and Islamophobes reigning in the White House

"When I wake up in the morning, and I remember who is sitting in the White House, I am outraged! This is not normal, sisters and brothers. Those people sitting in the most powerful seats in this country, is not normal."

Sarsour demanded that the nearly 20,000 Muslims in the audience not assimilate into American culture, saying it was their responsibility to look out for their community. Their duty, she said, was "to please Allah, and only Allah."
