No Concession: Rep. Brooks Will Contest Electoral College Jan. 6

Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., is looking beyond lawsuits and media reports. During an interview on FBN’s Lou Dobbs Tonight, he vowed to challenge the Electoral College, a common political practice used as recently as 2017 by Democrats after President Donald J. Trump was elected.

“Well, it’s happened many times in the past,” Brooks said during the interview. “Apparently, some folks have not done their history.”

Brooks cites how Democrats in the House attempted it in 2017 when they tried to strike Alabama’s and Georgia’s votes for President Trump. In another example, Barbara Boxer tried to strike Ohio for George Bush in 2005.

“The law is very clear, the House of Representatives, in combination with the United States Senate, has the lawful authority to accept or reject Electoral College vote submissions from states that have such flawed election systems that they’re not worthy of our trust,” Brooks said.

“I’m quite confident that if we only counted lawful votes cast by eligible American citizens, Donald Trump won the Electoral College, and we should not be counting illegal votes and putting in an illegitimate president of the United States.” he added.

While much of the nation and mainstream media has proclaimed Joe Biden the winner of the 2020 election, Brooks represents a contingency of Americans determined to fight for the democratic process, which they believe was circumvented by voter fraud.

According to Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, the battle is far from over. Even with the U.S. Supreme Court’s short dismissal of the Texas election case against Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, there are multiple avenues left that could lead to President Trump’s second term in office.

In the states named in the lawsuit, there are more than enough votes in question through mail-in ballots and illegal changes to process and the misuse of voting machines to elect President Trump.

Brooks says he faces a choice to sit back and surrender and be “part of the surrender caucus” or to fight for America and democracy.

The Brooks Plan

On Wednesday, Jan. 6, there will be a tallying of electoral results. Brooks plans to gather enough support to override them. He will object to the submissions of the Electoral College votes from the states, he said, have such flawed election systems that their votes are unworthy of ratification in Congress.

He needs a senator to partner with him to disrupt the process on that historic day in Washington, D.C.

“If we have a House member and a senator, then by golly, that forces a House vote and a floor vote on whether to accept this systematically flawed election system or to reject it,” Brooks told Lou Hobbs. “I want to reject it so that we can have an honest and fair and accurate election.”

According to an article in The New York Times, the coming fight will shape how the president’s supporters view the election for years to come. It will call out Republicans.

“For the vice president, whom the Constitution assigns the task of tallying the results and declaring a winner, the episode could be particularly torturous, forcing him to balance his loyalty to Mr. Trump with his constitutional duties and considerations about his own political future,” the article states.

“Well, where we’re headed as a country is this, quite simply, we’re a republic, and the bedrock of a republic is an honest and accurate voting system,” Brooks said. “And if you don’t have an honest and accurate voting system, then you may as well throw out the claim that you’re a republic. You’ve lost that right. You’ve lost the control of your government and, under those circumstances, those who can steal the most votes, who can engage in the most voter fraud and get away with it are going to be the ones that rule the roost in Washington, D.C. That’s not what our Founding Fathers wanted. That’s not what a million or so Americans who have lost their lives in wars wanted, giving us this republic, this democracy where we could control our own fate and our own destiny.” {eoa}
