WikiLeaks: Who Paid for Chelsea's Wedding?

According to an email released over the weekend by WikiLeaks, neither Bill nor Hillary Clinton paid for their daughter's lavish wedding.

In fact, there were a lot of things Chelsea Clinton hasn't paid for. That's because, according to a Jan. 4, 2012-dated email from Clinton Foundation co-founder Doug Band, the foundation has been footing the bill, effectively making the foundation an illegal "slush fund" for the family.

Band told Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman John Podesta:

I just received a call from a close friend of [Bill Clinton] who said that [Chelsea Clinton] told one of the Bush 43 kids that she is conducting an internal investigation of money within the foundation from [Clinton Global Initiative] to the foundation. The bush kid then told someone else who then told an operative within the Republican Party. I have heard more and more chatter of cvc and bari talking about lots of what is going on internally to people. Not smart.

Podesta responded:

You are perfecting your skills for understatement.

Band went further:

I learned from the best.

The investigation into her getting paid for campaigning, using foundation resources for her wedding and life for a decade, taxes on money from her parents...

I hope that you will speak to her and end this Once we go down this road...

It's clear there was a behind-the-scenes battle for control of the Clinton Foundation going on, but it remains unclear who actually won. It would seem, either way, the corruption and criminality ran deep.
