Sign of the Times? Iran Uses Star of David as Target for Missile Practice

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon revealed new information to the United Nations Security Council Wednesday about Iran's ballistic missile program and the country's intention to harm Israel.

In a document distributed to the Council members, Danon provided new satellite imagery from last November, showing the Iranian military using the Star of David as the intended target of the Qiam, a medium-range MTCR category one ballistic missile. The Star of David was painted in white on the ground as the target, and a crater from the impact of the missile is visible next to the Jewish symbol.

Furthermore, the launch was in direct violation of Security Council Resolution 2231.

"This use of the Star of David as target practice is hateful and unacceptable," Danon stated in a letter to the council. "The missile launch is not only a direct violation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 2231, but is also a clear evidence of Iran's continued intention to harm the State of Israel."

Last month, the Iranians fired ballistic missiles at targets in Syria and then released statements threatening Israel, the Israeli mission to the U.N. recalled, saying it was a continuation of a series of ballistic missile tests conducted by the Iranians since 2015 in defiance of the Security Council resolution.

"The targeting of a sacred symbol of Judaism is abhorrent," Danon asserted regarding the blatant display of violent anti-Semitism. "It is the Iranians who prop up the Assad regime as hundreds of thousands are killed, finance the terrorists of Hezbollah as they threaten the citizens of Israel and support extremists and tyrants throughout the Middle East and around the world. I call on the Security Council to respond decisively to these Iranian violations and provocations."
