When Will American Christendom Go on the Offense Against Abortion?

Share:

Kimberley Ann Strassel (born 1972) is a conservative columnist and member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board. In a WSJ opinion piece of April 6, 2023, titled ‘The GOP’s Abortion Flop,’ she writes: “At some point, the GOP might want to acknowledge its glaring abortion problem—and do something about it.”

It remains unclear what Ms. Strassel thinks the GOP should do about abortion. With public education grooming the next generation for a life of immorality and sexual perversion, abortion has been glorified as something sacrosanct, a consecrated tenet of secular faith, inviolable and untouchable.

As to the Grand Old Party, one might recall that Republicans controlled the U.S. House, the U.S. Senate and the presidency in 2016, and still didn’t do a darn thing.

To challenge the blight of secularism and the ruination of the culture, American Christendom will likely be God’s tool to respond to the secular defiance and blasphemy; provided that we get mercy for what we have allowed to happen to the once Christian nation.

Abortion is nothing but an outgrowth of the frittering away of the Judeo-Christian heritage and biblically based culture established by the American Founders.

The restoration will require acknowledgement of the moral compass of those who brought the gospel of the kingdom of God to the Eastern shores. It requires an appreciation of those who instituted rules for self-governance and individual freedom designed for a “moral and religious people.”

The Founders fully understood that freedom cannot long be preserved in the absence of virtue among the people and their elected representatives. Scripture was therefore established as the foundation on which to base discernment and judgement. After all, fear of God in conscience is ultimately the only thing that keeps a person honest, and doing right when no one is looking. Hence, statecraft is viable only if citizens can be relied upon to act with integrity.

“There is a way that seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death,” pronounced Solomon in Proverbs 14:12. This truth should be displayed above every public school building in America, which have devolved into the chief breeding ground for vice and the most conspicuous catalyst for the moral collapse of culture.

The choice for America is not between religion and no religion but between two religions: a religion from God or a religion of the State. It all comes down to the two crucial questions posed by Plato: 1) who teaches the children, and 2) what do we teach them?

The indisputable fact, wrote Fulton J. Sheen (1895-1979) in “War and Peace: A Sheen Anthology,” is that a nation’s education is far more important than a nation’s government. A generation raised on the principle that there is no absolute truth or justice will bring forth a next generation that believes in coercion and raw power.

“Neutrality,” wrote Archbishop Sheen, “is absolutely impossible in education. By the mere fact that religious and moral training is neglected, a non-religious, non-morality, and by consequence, an anti-religious and anti-morality ideology will be developed. ‘He that is not with Me is against Me.’ (Matt. 12:30).”

Ms. Strassel continued in her WSJ article: “Conservatives cheered mightily last year when the Supreme Court returned abortion to the states with Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. And rightly so.”

Due to the frightfully low Christian voter registration and turnout, we were not among those who threw their hats in the air and shouted Hallelujah! Prior to the Dobbs v. Jackson decision, we wrote on May 6, 2022:

“Evangelicals ought to think through what’s coming soon to their own surroundings and prospects. Specifically, with the U.S. Supreme Court looking as if it may overturn Roe vs. Wade in the Dobbs vs. Jackson case, tremendous pressure is about to be applied to state legislators and courts.

“The battle over snuffing out the lives of children in utero will move from the Judiciary to the Legislative Branch of government, hence to a place where success or failure is determined by grassroots, precinct-level organizing. Christians will have to take their civics game therefore to a whole new level.”

Unfortunately, American Christendom is not yet playing offense. As Jesse Kelly put it: “We’ve played defense for so long we don’t even know what offense looks like anymore.” Playing offense will take time as cultural transformation requires knowledge, experience, expertise, and wisdom coupled with engagement.

The bad news is that the church is still holed up inside the building. Current figures show that of the estimated 65-80 million self-identified Evangelical Christians in America, only 65.3% are registered to vote. Only 54% voted in any of the last 11 presidential elections, with only 36% on average of all evangelicals having voted in recent presidential elections.

Over the past 21 off-year or non-presidential elections, an average of only 38% of evangelicals voted, meaning that only 26% of total evangelicals generally vote in off-year elections. When it comes to local elections, the common number is that no more than 6% of registered evangelicals vote, meaning that only 4% of all evangelicals usually vote in local elections.

March CM CoverIn the last few years, the likes of Dr. Anthony Fauci, California Governor Gavin Newsom (D), Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D), disgraced former New York governor Andrew Cuomo (D), New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy (D) and Maine Governor Janet Mills (D) have been doing the ‘decreeing’.

They have issued edicts and fiats of wickedness, injustice, lockdowns and threats to free speech and personal liberty, all in collusion with the unholy alliance of Big Tech, Big Media, Big Government and Deep State.

But there is good news. Small signs often appear before a mighty work of God. Just like the announcement in 1 Kings 18:44 that there is a cloud “small as a man’s hand, rising out of the sea,”

Gideon’s and Rahab’s are beginning to stand in America’s public square. {eoa}
