Ché Ahn: 3 Ways Christians Can Keep Fighting for Life Now That Roe is Overturned

As believers, we believe God values life because every human being has been made in His likeness. We see in Scripture that not only has every child been made in the image of God, but every life begins at conception (Lev. 17:11; Ps. 139:13-15).

Five decades ago, America decided we had the right to murder a child in the womb, setting in motion one of the greatest evils in the world. Nearly 50 years later, as we have witnessed the overturning of Roe v. Wade, I believe it’s a clear sign of reformation of turning our nation back to God in our generation.

On September 1, 2021, the Supreme Court issued an unprecedented ruling to uphold the Heartbeat Bill (SB 8) in Texas, which bans abortions after six weeks’ gestation. This is a redemptive decision for Texas, where Roe v. Wade was first ruled almost 50 years ago. I’m proud of the Texas legislature for fighting for the unborn and saving the innocent lives in their state.

A few months ago, I asked the Lord to give me a sign that we’re in a time of reformation. The first thing I heard soon after that is that a federal judge in Florida declared that it was illegal for the CDC to mandate masks on public transportation. Immediately, all the airlines said they will no longer require anyone to wear a mask.

Another sign that may seem small, but has significance, is a recent lawsuit in Boston where a Christian group sued the city for discriminating against the Christian flag. Citizens were free to put up LGBTQ flags, other nation’s flags or club flags, but not the Christian flag. The lawsuit went all the way to the Supreme Court who voted 9 to 0, agreeing that it was discrimination.

And finally, “the leak heard ’round the world” as Politico revealed that more likely than not, Roe v. Wade would be overturned. And on June 24, it was.

Now that Roe v. Wade is overturned, we’ll praise God for that victory, but we can’t rest on our laurels. It’s time for the Church to get to work and defend biblical family values in our nation.

I believe this is just the beginning. We’re going to see more reformations of this kind and there are three ways Christians can be a part of it:

1. Vote biblically and vote pro-life. Overturning Roe v. Wade put the issue back in the hands of the people who elect their state legislators, rather than in the hands of judges or the executive branch. As Christians, we should seek to elect pro-life public officials who will support laws that protect innocent human life from conception through natural death.

Pro-life politicians will work to stop pro-abortion laws and introduce laws that not only limit or ban abortion but offer support to women facing unplanned pregnancies. These legislators can also work to combat maternal mortality rates, and fight all efforts to legalize infanticide.

2. Pray for our leaders. The Bible is clear that we’re to pray for our leaders: “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity (1 Tim. 2:1-2, NLT).”

Our leaders need God’s help. All of them. It’s important to remember that God is not surprised by the flaws of those in authority. Although our flaws aren’t publicly on display, we have them. While we pray, it’s important to remember that our leaders face spiritual battles and opposition that they may not be aware of. If our leaders don’t have a biblical worldview, we can pray for their hearts and minds to align with God’s Word.

3. Live a life of love. I believe the church has the solution for racial and biblical injustice. Only with the unity of all races and cultures under Jesus Christ will we be able to end abortion and create a legacy of life for future generations. As people with a biblical worldview, Christians have the opportunity and calling to be a “city on a hill” and live our lives in a way that shines a light in the darkness. Support local grassroots efforts to end abortion and minister to those who need support or healing.

A couple of years ago, God spoke to me about launching a pro-life movement in California, 1RACE4LIFE. The nonprofit organization seeks to mobilize all races to unite and vote pro-life, recruit a new generation of believers to value and protect life and mobilize people to impact lives. Getting involved in movements like this is one way that you can put your faith into action.

Join me in taking a radical stand for life and walk out your God-given call to be a reformer, world changer and history maker! You’ll be inspired to make a difference and create a legacy of life for the next generation as you take a bold stand for life today.

Let us continue to intercede for our nation, that we may see the complete eradication of abortion in our lifetime. Our work has just begun, but I believe we’re going to see tremendous reformation in the days ahead. {eoa}
