As a Christian businessman in England, my prayers are going out today for British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. This morning, news outlets reported that Johnson was moved to intensive care just 10 days after testing positive for COVID-19.
The coronavirus has proved to be no respecter of persons and being in the frontline has exposed him to the dangers of this nasty virus. Add to that the grueling task of achieving Brexit and winning by substantial majority a December General Election. No sooner as he entered Number 10 is he then faced with major decisions to shut down the nation. His resilient immune system will be low.
St Thomas' Hospital on the south side of the River Thames at Waterloo is a fine hospital and he is in safe hands. However, it is an opportunity to pray for his recovery and for his family. We can also pray for his Cabinet as they continue to work together under Mr. Raab, nominated by Boris to deputize. Boris, Churchillian in style, can be reminded that Waterloo in France was the site of great victory for a previous prime minister, the Duke of Wellington.
This call to pray for Boris' speedy recovery will go out across many nations and by virtue of the time zones he will be under 24-hour cover of prayer. I know that Boris is not a believer, and probably at best a doubting Thomas, but nevertheless we are to pray and in doing so we seek the healing that Jesus Christ assured us of. In this week leading up to Easter we know more than ever that victory awaits.
