Why Even the Smallest Compromises Are Always Destructive

Living life apart from God can be fun, but it's always destructive. The partying, drinking, smoking and sexual promiscuity before giving our lives to God were normal habits for many individuals. Then we decide to follow Christ. We drop all of the bad habits and go cold turkey. But after a while, trying to be perfect becomes tiresome.

Then we begin to compromise.

Maybe we have a drink here or there. Or begin to watch shows that God previously guided us away from. These things don't seem to be a big deal in the moment, but in the long run, it's fatal. Like a ship that's guided by a compass, adjusting your moral compass a hair off course seems minuscule in the present. But in the long run, you become as far away from God as you were when you started.

We must remember James 4:17 (ESV): "So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin." We cannot compromise the morals that God is instilling within us. Yes, you will become an outcast in circles that you used to fit in with. But the fruit that God is trying to produce within you is far too valuable. He wants you to prosper and be blessed, but we have to be in a position to receive it. It's not about trying in our own might to be perfect. It's about getting back up when we fall, forgiving ourselves when we make mistakes and doing our best to obey God in all that we do.
