"A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season (time), how good is it!" (Prov. 15:23).
I want to concentrate on the second part of the verse above, "a word spoken in due season." Season here means time. At times, prophetic words might be true but given out of season or out of time. Sometimes, the word prophesied is not meant to be released until a later date.
I've seen a number of people misguided by ill-timed prophetic words. These types of words end up blocking destiny
instead of propelling the hearer forward. Words given out of season can derail a person's destiny. They're very likely to walk into something they're unprepared for due to a lack of experience and wisdom.
At times, I released a prophetic word too early, and the person wasn't ready for it. When this happens, demonic activity increases in the recipient's life. The attacks intensify because of the prophetic words that were released.
I've seen this many times and have learned to release what God says to release and keep what the Lord says to
keep. Immature prophetic people sometimes believe that you're supposed to release every word that God gives you. Not true! At times, God would have you pray it rather than say it. In other words, you might be prophesying to a person when suddenly, you see something terrible, such as illness, death, etc. The words of a prophet of God establish things and carry great weight.
They have a tendency to manifest. As prophetic people, we must ask the Lord for permission to release these words during these times. The Lord might say, "No, I want you to pray it, not say it."
Prayer: A Neglected Weapon
Prayer can be an extremely powerful tool to alter the person's present situation. In fact, it's one of the most neglected tools in the believer's arsenal! We must remember, prayer changes things, but prophecy has the ability to reset what has been changed. When you give prophetic words from the Lord, the person might receive a fresh start or outlook. This may confirm changes recently garnered through prayer and realign attitudes concerning faith. This will help them when receiving prayer concerning life-altering situations that the prophet did not address. We must always be the Master's mouthpiece, willing to speak or hold back as He commands. Words shouldn't be spoken based on chronological time but on the Master's time. Please make sure you're on God's kairos (His time) and not your chronos (your chronological time) when releasing His word.
Isaiah 50:4 tells us, "The Lord God has given me the tongue of the learned, that I may know how to sustain him who is weary with a word; He awakens me morning by morning; He awakens my ear to listen as the learned."
Know His Voice and Timing
In order to say what He wants us to say, we must be able to recognize His voice. Once we know God's voice, we're able to discern His timing.
Don't be surprised when the Lord shows you something about someone and then tells you not to release it at that time. Believe me, this happens more often than you think. I've admonished novice prophets when they tell every anointed or gifted person that they see that they're apostles. This type of behavior is very common in today's church. I'm called an apostle on an almost daily basis. Peers have rebuked me for not accepting this word. My philosophy has always been to do the work, and people will call you what they see you do.
That's what Jesus did. He never once focused on a title. He let His deeds speak for Him as should we. In this case, actions speak much louder than words. I'd rather see what you do than hear you talk about your credentials.
Words Can Hurt You!
The saying, "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" reportedly first appeared in the March 1862 issue of The Christian Recorder, a publication of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. However,
this popular adage is only partially true. Yes, sticks and stones have the latent power to break and harm, depending
on who is wielding both, but words do, too.
Proverbs 18:21 tells us that the power of life and death is in the tongue. Words can hurt you.
Demonically Disguised Information
When allowing people to minister to you, be very careful about what you permit them to speak into your spirit.
I've learned to not allow demonically disguised information to enter into my ear gates, whether or not the speaker realizes what he or she is saying. When they begin to minister verbally to me, I will immediately stop them when I feel the words are of satanic origin. I want to emphasize that the speaker might not know this, but when you discern it, you must end the conversation or make the person stop their evil report.
We have a radio broadcast called "Faith To Endure" that comes on WBGX AM 1570 (The Big Gospel Express) Monday through Friday at 7:15 a.m. CST. Years ago, a woman heard me on the show and decided to call to discuss specific services that she could offer our church. In the midst of our dialogue, she suddenly broke forth in unknown tongues
very loudly. Each time she did it, my spirit was immensely grieved as it just didn't sound right. I could sense from the tone of her voice when she spoke in the spirit (tongues) that she might be a witch on assignment.
The tongues that emanated from her mouth were not of God. At that point, I ended the call and haven't heard
from her since.
Discern Your Enemy!
The enemy has a distinct sound, which you have to be able to discern as the person speaks.
In Acts 16, the woman with the spirit of divination (python) said all the right things but with the wrong spirit or motivation. Paul identified the motivation behind the words and rebuked it. The woman then lost her "gift" and her master's gain. Do not receive everything whispered in your ear or spoken through your cellphone or released on social media in this season. Instead, stop them mid-sentence and let them know that you are not receiving what they're dishing out. You cannot eat from everyone's table, especially if the meal has a past history of not agreeing with you.
