What Really Happens in the 4 Most Common Abortion Procedures

With the right to life as a major issue in 2016, pro-life investigative video producer Live Action released videos today aimed at changing the abortion debate in America. For the first time ever, a former abortionist will use medical animations to clearly depict what actually happens to a baby and her mother during an abortion.

"Our experience shows us that once people see the violent reality of what abortion does to a preborn child, it's hard for them to justify it," said Live Action president and founder Lila Rose.

With a former abortionist describing four of the most prevalent types of abortion procedures used during each trimester, the videos feature medical animations of the inside of the womb (not graphic photos) guiding viewers through abortion procedures.

"This unique window into the womb dispels the myth that abortions remove 'clumps of cells,' and instead shows that they kill real children with beating hearts and forming brains at just 3 1/2 weeks gestation," Rose said.

Information presented in the videos is backed by peer-reviewed medical journals and has been developed and reviewed by practicing OB/GYNs, medical professionals, and former abortionists.

"From our nine years of undercover investigations, Live Action has discovered that abortionists frequently lie to women about how developed their babies are, the brutality abortion inflicts on preborn children, and the risks abortion procedures pose to women's health and safety," said Rose. "No one knows more about these lies—or how to unmask them—than an abortionist."

The series of four videos feature Dr. Anthony Levatino, an OB/GYN who performed more than 1,200 abortions during the early part of his career.

"I'd like to challenge the abortion lobby—Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and the rest—to respond to these videos. After seeing the videos, most people would have a difficult time telling a woman that abortion is 'health care' or 'empowering,'" Rose said. "The public is no longer going to buy the rhetoric of the abortion lobby. In 2016, the 'war on women' and 'extremist' labels just won't work."

Live Action has the largest social media presence for the pro-life movement and will promote the videos through its social platforms, which reach millions of people weekly. It will also make the videos available to pro-life organizations, churches, schools, community activists, and other groups that want to distribute them.

All four videos, as well as an interview with Dr. Levatino on why he became pro-life, can be seen at AbortionProcedures.com. The website also serves as a resource for women who are pregnant and considering abortion.

The four separate videos address four of the most common abortion procedures:

  • the abortion pill that deprives the baby of blood and nourishment until it dies

  • the suction D & C that uses a vacuum to pull the baby apart

  • the D & E abortion that uses forceps to tear limbs from larger babies, and

  • the induction abortion that uses a chemical injection to stop the fetal heart and cause the mother to deliver the baby stillborn a few days later
