Will Gay Marriage Be the New Norm by 2023?

Gays are celebrating, but Dec. 29 will be a sad day for Maine.

The state made history on Election Day, joining Maryland and Washington to legalize gay weddings for the first time ever by popular vote. Reuters reports:

“In last month’s historic vote approving same-sex marriage, some 53 percent of those deciding the issue in Maine voted in favor of the new law, said the ACLU of Maine. Marriage equality advocates are still trying to determine what level of activity there will be on Dec. 29, because Maine’s town halls won’t necessarily be open, since it is a Saturday …

“Nine of the 50 states and Washington, D.C., have legalized gay marriage, while 31 states have passed constitutional amendments banning it.”

So we see good news and bad news. Most of the states in our union have actually moved to ban gay marriage. The bad news is, amendments can be overturned.

Who would have thought 20 years ago that gay marriage could become legal by popular vote? What do you think America will look like 20 years from now? Will gay marriages, as some television shows suggest, become the new norm?
