‘Redeem the Time’: How God’s Word Can Supercharge Your Family’s Quarantine

With the COVID-19 quarantine, there has never been a better time, Rev. Joseph Parker says, for Christian parents to connect their children with the Word of God.

The director of outreach and intercession with American Family Radio, Parker says that while the lockdown time appears to be winding down, there is still time for families to “redeem their time” and for believing parents to disciple their kids to become world changers.

And, it could be as simple as starting with a psalm and the Ten Commandments.

“One of the things we’ve been doing, along with encouraging believers to use tools like Psalm 91, is showing them how to make the most of the time in the midst of this shut-in period to spend more time with one another,” Parker told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of Greenelines on the Charisma Podcast Network.

“One of the things we’ve really try to do is encourage believers to maximize the moment, to use it as a great discipleship time. Some of the things are pretty basic Christian discipleship steps, but they’re wonderful ways to redeem the time and use it wisely. During the pandemic, we’ve challenged believers to read God’s Word together as a family. Specifically, it’s very wise for parents have your children read the Word of God out loud. I regularly challenge believers to set the goal of reading like three chapters a day out loud. That’s not a lot, perhaps just 15 minutes a day.

“It’s a wonderful way to invest the Word of God in our children’s lives because there’s nothing our children need more than the precious and powerful Word of God. Redeem the time by praying together. Have them pray Psalm 91 and the pray the Ten Commandments. Have them pray for our nation and for our government. Teach them to become prayer warriors because God will hear the prayers of children who love Jesus. And when you do this, you can reward them for their efforts.”
