How You Can Give to God's Kingdom Without Fear of COVID-19 Recession

COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on the American economy, and churches and ministries certainly have not escaped its wrath.

Fear of job loss and financial hardship have led to decreased tithing by church members, and churches are trying to cope with the downturn in tithes. Roger Lane, a former pastor, a fundraiser and a life coach for more than 40 years, says he wants to encourage those churches and ministries and to help people get back into the giving routines they experienced prior to COVID-19.

"This just happens to be a very important time in the church history, and for them to really begin to consider funding, because we know many are struggling now with the coronavirus and the impact it has had on giving," Lane told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of Greenelines on the Charisma Podcast Network.

"For many, they kind of hibernate when it comes to giving when a crisis comes along. It's not hoarding, it's just a fear factor that comes over everybody when it relates to their giving. People are saying, 'I'm just making sure I have enough to take care of me and my family,' and so they hang on to a little more than what might normally flow to the church or other ministries.

"But there is a time when we will open our doors again. And people need to understand the importance of generosity. They need to develop a personal purpose for living and for giving. Being an old farm boy, I put together an acrostic with the word PLOW. P stands for pray. L stands for listen. O stands for obey, and W stands for 'watch God do a miracle in your living and giving.'

"So, as we pray, we develop that path for living and giving. We find that God gets involved as we pray, and then as we are willing to listen, God will speak to us and He will give us direction for our lives. There are four things we want to do. We want to excite the congregation about funding. We want to educate them about the idea of stewardship and generosity. We want to encourage them through the testimonials of individuals who are going through the process. And then we want to invite and engage people to participate in the journey."
