Why Pastors Are Excited About a Second-Edition MEV

The Modern English Version of the Bible (MEV) has become so popular in its first few years of existence that the executive director and chief editor Jim Linzey says pastors are "pounding on my door" after discovering an update will soon be printed.

The MEV was first published in Charisma House in 2014. Linzey says the version has been embraced by pastors, churches and ministries worldwide. A second edition, Linzey says, will be published "not because there are errors" in the first edition, but simply to "refine some of the oddities of the usage of English."

"I've heard from many, many people out there who have read the MEV that they love it," Linzey told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent edition of "Greenelines" on the Charisma Podcast Network. "For the second edition, we need to smooth out some of the English to make it more appropriate for English scholars.

"Because they have caught wind of a second edition, various pastors, many whom I have never met, have been pounding on my door, calling me up, emailing me to find out the logistics of the second edition and when we are going to release it. So we have a huge following. We are working very hard to finish the second edition, hopefully by the end of the year."

With the Modern English Version, Linzey says editors have "gone as far as we can for the 21st century in getting rid of every archaic word that we possibly can for today's reader."

A special copy of the Modern English version was presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in May 2016.
