As we make a journey of any significant distance, we will certainly notice a change in terrain. We will cross boundaries real and imagined.

Leaders must be prepared to cross boundaries.

The days of “I lead, you follow” are long gone. Few leaders work in an environment of isolation. Today’s leader must be a bridge builder across multiple teams, functions and geographies.

Leaders must be bridge builders while creating good workflow and commitment between all communities. An environment which nurtures “us vs. them” within an organization is toxic and harmful to the sustainability of the mission.

We must learn to lead across groups. The key is to find an intersection between independence and dependence. Expertise may be diverse, but the outcome must be common.

Networks are created by design. Is any network more important than the one between our internal teams? Some leaders miss this concept so badly that each team is given different color T-shirts to magnify allegiance to one department over another.

Homesteading and isolationism have gone the way of dinosaurs and 8-track tapes.

We must celebrate our differences while embracing alignment.
We must connect the dots without losing the beauty of each individual dot.
We must produce today while empowering vision.
We must share our identity while stimulating the individual.

Highly effective leaders adapt to new terrain.

Boundaries must blur.

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
