What Business Leaders Can Learn From 'War Room'

One of my takeaways from the War Room movie was the importance of writing down specific prayers and attaching a list of appropriate Scriptures which address the prayer.

Here's my prayer, and this is Your promise.

I liked seeing the movie characters searching their Bibles for Scriptures as they considered their needs. It sure beats hand wringing.

It was instructive to watch as the prayers and Scriptures were then attached to their War Room wall. As I watched the actors pray, I was once again reminded of the importance of committing prayers to writing.

Leaders know that checklists produce consistent results. The checklist is a written testament to the importance of process over outcomes.

The highest level of attention needs to be given to processes rather than outcomes. But flies on boardroom walls report that table banging seems to always be about outcomes.

The very best processes are scaled by checklists. Inspection of checklists is a precursor to end of month reports. If our systems and checklists are effective, we can be confident that outcomes will be predictable.

In prayer, we pray believing.

With checklists, we check and see outcomes.

"Therefore pray in this manner: Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come; Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen" (Matt. 6:9-13).
