Angela Bassett Glorifies God and Prayer in Golden Globes Award Speech

Angela Bassett won the Golden Globes Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever." In her speech she took a moment to give glory to God and boast of the power of prayer.

"In order for that destiny to manifest I think it requires courage, to have faith, it requires patience and a true sense of yourself," Bassett says referring to a quote from the late Toni Morrison. Morrison, known for her novel "Song of Solomon" once said, "Your life is already a miracle of chance, just waiting for you to order its destiny."

In her speech, 64-year-old Bassett honored the life of her co-star Chadwick Boseman, who unexpectedly died in 2020 from a private battle with colon cancer. "By the grace of God I stand here. I stand here grateful," she says.

Bassett continued her speech saying, "My mother always said good things come to those who pray, and I see the truths of that every day as we welcome each new day as a family."

In James 4:2-3 the Bible says, "You lust and do not have, so you kill. You desire to have and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have, because you do not ask. You ask, and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your passion."

The Bible teaches us that when we go to the Lord and pray for His will to be done, He will open the doors. When we pray and ask God to give us things that only align with worldly passions, He will not respond. For these bold Christian actors, God is opening doors for them to preach the gospel and share the message of Jesus.

It's incredible to see Hollywood stars talk openly about their faith in God. Bassett isn't the only "Black Panther" star to boldly share their faith in Jesus. Letitia Wright plays the lead role in the sequel "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever."

In an interview with The Guardian, Wright talks about the dark path she fell into when she first started acting. She was in a deep depression and considered quitting after spending her nights partying and pouring herself into her work to get better.

A fellow actor invited her to a Bible study where her life was completely transformed. Wright says, "It gave me the centering I needed, the good foundation I needed and it helped me to put in perspective what was important for me."

After putting her faith and trust in God she has found the overwhelming satisfaction that if all else fell away, she would still be content in the Lord.

It's incredible to hear about the remnant in Hollywood that is coming together to encourage one another in their faith and share the themes of faith in the roles they play in the movies. For the actors on set of "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" the set felt more like a church service as all the actors shared the miracles God has performed in their lives.
