Stephen Strang: Still Going Strong—Pat Boone Says His New Book 'If' Is Not Religious

Read Time: 2 minutes 34 seconds

Hit singer, actor and author Pat Boone still holds the record for being on Billboard's charts longer than anyone. He has had over 25 singles reach the top 20 on the U.S. singles charts including one of his hit songs, "Ain't That a Shame." Boone had sold 3 million records before Elvis sold one.

He credits his deep faith and love for God that kept him on the straight and narrow in Hollywood all these years. At 88, Boone is going strong, making movies, recording songs, making business deals and trying to reach the 50% of Americans who never attend church.

I interviewed Boone for my podcast, 'Strang Report' about his latest book, 'If.' We are now living in a time where America is considered a post-Christian society. For Boone's latest and possibly final book, he felt a nudge from God to write for those in the secular world.

It's not a religious book. Boone is admonishing the secular community to take a look at their eternal decision to see where they fall. He was praying when he heard the word 'if.' After doing some research, he feels it could be one of the most important words in the Bible.

"I learned there is no blessing of God that doesn't come without an 'if,'" he says. When God created Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, He gave them rule and reign over all creation but there was just one thing God told them not to do. They could eat from any tree in the garden, but if they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil they would surely die.

There has to be an answer to that 'if.' Every person on Earth decides daily what their decision is on eternal life, whether they are cognizant of it or not. There are well-known scientists like Darwin, Hawking and Einstein who all recognized in their later years in life that there is some intelligence but they chose to ignore God.

Boone's hope is that through the book, those who are living in darkness will be confronted with their decision and will not take it lightly. Everyone has a choice but with all the distractions going on in the world today, many put off their faith for a later time. This is a book that will wake people up and present them to the gospel in a life changing way.

My connection with Boone goes back to the 1970s when his book 'A New Song' was published by the late Robert Walker under Creation House, the predecessor to Charisma House.

Pat and his wife Shirley were part of the Church of Christ before being baptized in the Holy Spirit. They were declared no longer members by the church and their being disfellowshipped made national news.

When Boone received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, his story was immortalized in 'A New Song,' which sold more than 1 million copies. Through his journey with God throughout the years, Boone's realized how short life is compared to the eternity we spend with Jesus in heaven and that is the message he wants the world to know.
