Uniting Americans across racial, political, socioeconomic, cultural and generational lines, the 2022 National Day of Prayer stands today as a barometer of the prophetic and moral resurgence in the U.S. The prophetic signs of what is happening in America point to a surprise development that prayer intercessors and prophetic leaders can unify around.
While people stop and pray at state Capitols, courthouses, businesses, schools, churches and homes throughout the day as they do every year, a realization is unfolding that this year’s Day of Prayer is like no other in decades. Righteousness, freedom and love are starting to be reestablished in America amid the crumbling of evil strongholds.
“We’re in a historic moment right now, as evil is being overturned and righteousness is coming back to our land,” says Robia Scott, a prophetic leader and creative artist who played a pivotal role in the pro-life movie Unplanned and now leads Robia Scott Ministries to unlock people’s prophetic gifting and help them get the inner healing they need.
Robia is also author of the popular book Counterfeit Comforts: Freedom from the Imposters That Keep You from True Peace, Purpose and Passion. She was once a professional dancer and spokesperson for the legendary singer Prince before the Lord called her into full-time ministry and a Spirit-led transformation into an intercessory prayer leader with prophetic sensibilities.
“As prayer intercessors on the National Day of Prayer, we stand in the gap that evil is coming down. God is doing a divine realign. It’s no coincidence that we are in a season of shattering strongholds,” she adds, coming off one of her Inner Circle prayer calls to prepare for today’s first-strike prayer intercession. “It is our prayer and intercession that turn the tide.”
Donné Clement Petruska, the late prophet Kim Clement’s daughter and vice president of the House of Destiny Network, says, “This year, the National Day of Prayer is more important than ever before. It is now that we must unite together in more than just prayer, but prophetic prayer. In this season of confusion, deception and division, God has raised up an army of warriors — prayer warriors.“
Donné goes on to say, “The enemy struts around as if he’s won, but we have the victory on our tongues and in our hearts. God has been preparing us for this all of our lives. No weapon formed against us will prosper. I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. For God, impossible is nothing.”
Places where the enemy has had a stronghold for decades are now starting to be turned and overturned. Like the move of tectonic plates in the spiritual realm, things are being brought back into divine order, according to Robia.
“Just a couple weeks ago I heard in prayer to remember the Lord as Waymaker,” says Robia. “The time is now where He is making a way where there has seemed to be no way. It has looked as if evil is dominating, our world is getting darker and darker, the circumstances are dire. But God.”
She pauses and then, changing her tone of voice, continues with a prophetic declaration: “Evil might prevail for a time, but our God is a God of order, righteousness and freedom. The spirit of control and manipulation that is attempting to reign and rule is now being overturned.”
The unraveling of the pro-death abortion culture, misrepresentation of racial issues, communist-style government authoritarianism, infringement of individual freedom and rights, the oversexualization of children, the purposeful and manipulated confusion about gender identity, the exposure of anti-free speech, fear-mongering, race-baiting propagandists, and anti-biblical, ideology-driven values masquerading as “social justice” is a sign of a shift on the rise that Christians can and should pray into with boldness. The fierce backlash across the country is causing a large portion of the populace to awaken from their decades-long spiritual slumber.
“All of a sudden, the enemy is losing major territory. Out of nowhere, the tide is turning,” Robia says with excitement. “This year’s National Day of Prayer will be remembered for marking the changing of the guard. The prayers of tens of millions of people from coast to coast today will strike a monumental blow against unrighteousness.”
Everything that can be shaken has been shaken, including the church system. Forward-leaning Christian ministers even believe God is doing a work to purify the church in America at a macro level. The National Day of Prayer is a trigger for the body of Christ to come into tighter partnership with the Holy Spirit and realign with what God is doing on the planet and in individual believers.
“This year’s National Day of Prayer is happening at a pregnant moment when the fullness of unrighteousness has reached historic levels,” says Christ John Otto, one of the leading prayer intercessors in New England, author of 10 books, and founder of Belonging House, a growing online community of artists and creative people on fire with the Holy Spirit.
Like a prophet rejected in his own land, Otto brings a message that not every Christian wants to hear because it treats prayer as a tool to transform, mobilize and ignite as a creative spark, not as a wand to reinforce complacency. He asserts that the power of prayers across the nation on this special day will increase the more they are imbued with authentic repentance in humility, extending grace through a realignment with the truth of God’s Word and shrugging off the compromises, worldly infiltration and inconsistencies that hinder prayer.
“It appears God is bringing a correction to many ministries and churches after years of warning,” says the head of Belonging House. “At the same time, Roe v. Wade, the focus of prayer for almost 50 years, may finally be struck down. This is the time to go low before God.”
Christ Otto’s call for humility on this day fits well with the official description of the National Day of Prayer, as seen on the National Day of Prayer website: “It stands as a call for us to humbly come before God, seeking His guidance for our leaders and His grace upon us as a people.”
The leaders of the National Day of Prayer hold, as stated on their website, that “prayer is as important to the United States today as it was in the beginning.”
Based on past calculations of the magnitude of unified prayer on this day, it is estimated that over 2 million people will attend more than 30,000 observances organized by approximately 40,000 volunteers. Of course, individual prayers while sitting at home, driving in a car, walking down a street or on one’s knees in a prayer closet magnify the scale of praying that defines this day.
Building on the reality of the Lord establishing something new on the earth for this unprecedented season, Robia pointed to a famous quote by the prayer warrior Andrew Murray to offer a perspective that is as true now as it was centuries ago: “God’s giving is inseparably connected with our asking. Only by intercession can that power be brought down from heaven which will enable the Church to conquer the world,” wrote Murray.
As Spirit-filled Christians often attest, prayer is a two-way mode of communication. For some, today may also be a “National Day of Listening.”
“It is crucial for the body of Christ to not buy into the ‘new normal’ agenda that is being broadcast,” says the leader of Robia Scott Ministries. “We need to get our news from above, from the Spirit, in prayer. That we hear the voice that says, ‘this is the way; walk in it.’ Now is the time to walk by faith and not by sight. It’s time to realign with God’s ways, and it is happening because we are coming together as the body of Christ in unity and in prayer.”
