Apostolic Preacher: If You Change Your Conditioning, You’ll Change Your Condition

I was reared in a New Jersey family where no one could keep a job or get ahead. But something inside me said, If I’m smart enough and if I put in enough time and enough work, I’m going to beat them.

Since those days, I’ve learned that success has no favorites. I’ve proven that success isn’t a racist. I’ve also discovered that in the African American community, most of us are conditioned to fail. For us to change our conditions, we have to change that conditioning.

I propose that if we are to restore our national soul as a people, we need to train our own souls first. And to train our souls to prosper, the soul requires truth. We have to be honest.

When we don’t deal with our conditioning to fail, we fall into the national soul destroyers of disunity, drugs and rage, to name a few. These soul-destroyers all lead to one place—rampant disappointment.

What is a soul? A soul is the middle part of you that connects the rest of you to this world. Your soul is an entity that engineers and directs you. Everything you’re living today is what you programmed into your soul. That means, your soul is the key to your destiny.

I’ve seen how millions of dollars have been spent on us in research, treatments, meds and more.

But they don’t deal with our soul, which is in control of our destiny.

The purpose of your soul is to see that you prosper on this planet. This planet owes everybody walking on it an opportunity to succeed. That’s the natural law of creation. We may not all have the same obstacles or setbacks. But we all have the same soul constitution to overcome. We all have it.

Our job as humans is to make sure our souls become the deflector, the protector and the defender of our destiny. Our soul deflects opposition, has a combat plan and keeps us working on something until we get it right. We have to train our brains to train our hands to go into motion when dealing with the emotions of life.

There are four views of your soul. History—your view of your past. Identity—your view of yourself. Direction—your view of your purpose. Drive—your view of your path.

Your soul is the key to your destiny, and your soul is powered by your identity. Your identity is constructed by what you identify with and why. We’re in an era where identity is focused on your external self. But if that’s your identity, then nothing is telling your soul how to conform to the rules of success.

But when you find your identity, nobody can move it. They can’t change your identity. You’re on purpose and you’re moving forward because you have found yourself.

When you discover your identity, it determines how you look at your past, how you see yourself, the purpose that you feel, the reason for being on the planet and what you should pursue—your path. A lot of people miss their destiny because they choose the wrong path.

Your genes comprise your destiny. God gave you your talents, the gifts you were born with, so you could do what you’re supposed to do for the rest of your days. If you don’t utilize the talent you have, you’ll borrow someone else’s.

The reason people drop out of life, give up on life and numb themselves to life is that they haven’t discovered their inner treasures. Every soul is rich with treasures. We must treasure-hunt and mine our talent.

Otherwise, we drift along and agree to be a victim. Victimhood has a payoff. Some people like being the victim because it’s easy. But as long as you love being a victim, you’ll never be a victor.

If African Americans want to do something with this democracy, we must change the game. We can stew and fuss about Caucasians all day long. But remember, success is not a racist. And success has no favorites; it only has rules. If you play by its rules, you’ll win.

What broke your soul? What happened when you were a kid that made you so disappointed you decided to drift through life? Maybe your dad’s or uncle’s or mother’s experience fueled your conditioning. Experiences are passed on.

Yes, it was difficult for them to be Black, but not you. That’s somebody else’s experience, not yours. We have to stop listening to that bunch of stories telling us how difficult it is to be Black.

Many people gave their lives for me to write this op-ed. It’s up to us living now to figure out how to maintain the progress we’ve gained as Black people. It’s up to us to honor the prayers of our ancestors.

We have to stop living in the past. If we keep disparaging and despising our present, we’ll kill our future. Our kids will be the same way, sitting on the stoop talking trash. They’ll stay there for two reasons: the comfort of victimhood because they don’t want to work hard, or they just need to be guided out.

We have to stop listening to that bunch of stories telling us how difficult it is to be Black. We need to stop carrying on a legacy that is not true.

The soul needs truth to be free. We have to learn to think. We have to learn to negotiate. We have to learn the skills that everybody else is using, skills necessary for success.

Because we can change the game. If we change our conditioning, we’ll change our condition. {eoa}
