Why is America special? Why do people from other countries flock to our borders?
Because we have been a republic which has embraced freedoms for its citizens which are now under threat.
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a “republic” is a government in which supreme power resides in a body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by elected officers and representatives responsible to them and governing according to law.
However, courageous leaders who act according to the rules of our republic and dare speak up against the mainstream narrative are under attack as never before. What is happening to them is childish, spiteful and dangerous. It threatens the freedom and voice of American citizens through our elected officials who are getting punished, stripped of authority and perhaps even pensions if they don’t toe the liberal line.
More recently we have seen:
— Punishment against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., after she filed articles of impeachment against Biden after he took office. The media immediately launched a smear campaign against her. Simultaneously, the majority party in the House voted against a minority party member to have her removed from committee assignments. Up until now, this was almost unheard of. Their action, in essence removed much of Greene’s authority simply because she dared to do something the majority party didn’t like. It was simply punishment because they didn’t like her or what she did.
— Last month in an interview with station WJPF, Illinois state treasurer Michael Frerichs, a Democrat, made the statement that they were considering removing the state pension of any official who contested the approval of the electoral votes on Jan. 6. In the interview, Frerichs referred to those who wanted to see further investigation before certifying the electoral votes as “extremists and contributing to an overthrow of our democracy.” He called their actions, “destabilizing to our government …” Those are bold words considering the officials were simply asking for a 10-day review of the irregularities that had been uncovered in several states. A review doesn’t destabilize our government. Just the opposite. It was integral to keeping integrity in our elections and government.
As we consider Frerichs’ statement, isn’t it the job of an elected official to vote according to the law and the will of their constituents? To ask questions when they have them? Even more concerning about Frerichs’ statement is when we realize the “reprimand” appears to be a personal attack to penalize Rep. Mike Bost, a Republican, who is the only official in Illinois who would be stripped of his pension if it is enacted.
The question now is how many other states are quietly working behind the scenes to pass similar penalties on elected officials who dare to speak out?
How can our elected officials do their jobs when they are under the threat of losing their seat, being removed from committees or being penalized in some other way if they don’t vote according to the liberal viewpoint? For those who don’t recognize it, this is how a communist government operates, and we are being forced into it.
Once Democrats stepped into the majority, they immediately started to discuss stiff penalties for Republican Sens. Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz, largely seen as the two leaders in the senate who objected to immediate certification of the 2020 presidential election results without further investigation. The Democrats also tried to blame them for the breach at the Capitol on Jan. 6 even though there is no evidence to that effect.
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, unquestionably the most outspoken conservative currently on the court, has been threatened for his courageous stand as has his wife, Ginni. Unlike some of his conservative counterparts who often flipped left, Thomas has been consistent in his votes during his almost 30-year tenure.
In an effort to remove his influence and voice, “A documentary about the life of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was inexplicably removed from Amazon Prime during Black History Month. … The film, Created Equal: Clarence Thomas In His Own Words, was removed from the Amazon video service on Feb. 8, shortly into Black History Month,” according to the Washington Examiner. Since Thomas, is only the second Black person to join the Supreme Court, shouldn’t that have been celebrated particularly during Black History month? Well, no, because he’s a conservative and votes as such.
On the reverse, some states are beginning to take action against their GOP federal leaders who voted left, abandoning their constituents. Among them is the North Carolina Republican Party central committee which voted to censure Sen. Richard Burr for his vote to convict former President Donald Trump during his second impeachment trial, as did the Wyoming Republican Party, which voted overwhelmingly to censure Rep. Liz Cheney for her vote against the president. The difference in these actions is that it is the party taking action of reprimand to its own party members rather than the opposing party working to silence members of another party.
Let us continue to pray that our freedom of speech in America for them and for us will not be stolen. Also pray for protection and courage for our elected officials, especially those who have come under attack for simply standing up for conservative and constitutional values. {eoa}
