Former Repeat Offender Shuns Jezebel Life for God’s Glory

Saved and Spirit-filled, Shane W. Roessiger now lives free of the grip of drugs, alcohol and prison. Today, as a ministry leader at H.O.T. House of Truth Apostolic Center in Nokomis, Florida, he aims to live a no-compromise life in Christ.

In his latest book, Nuggets From Heaven, and on the Charisma Connection podcast, Roessiger speaks of how God purifies believers as they become more and more like Christ.

“He wants to burn all the impurities out of our lives so He can flow and He can be glorified through us being His body, so if we have iniquity and sin and all those things, it’s hard for Him to get glory,” he says.

But the process is often challenging.

“[We] stop the purification when our will butts heads against His,” he says. “We think we have rights, but to give all the glory to God, we need to give up all of our rights. He has a good plan for us. Everything He has for us is glorious, even when we don’t think doing it His way is better.”

Roessiger believes too many Christians fall into the trap of living for self.

“We need to keep our hearts pure by continuing to obey the Word of God even when it’s hard or even when we don’t want to,” he says. “Like Jezebel, the goddess of self, basically we’re our own gods, and Jezebel is a form of narcissism. So it’s not about us anymore.”

Roessiger points to both Word and Spirit working in tandem in the Christian’s life.

“God wants us to be living epistles today,” he says. “It all ties together with His Word, but we have a lot of legalists who get so caught up in the Word that they’re blinded by the letter, and they don’t move in the Spirit. We need the Spirit and the Word unifying together.”
