The chancellor of Troy University is coming under fire from atheists for sharing a video with the university family that draws a connection between religion and democracy, al.com reports.
One of the students at the Alabama college contacted American Atheists, who demanded Troy Chancellor Jack Hawkins issue a public apology for sharing the video.
"The video asserts that religion, particularly Judeo-Christian beliefs, are necessary to be moral, lawabiding citizens and implies that those who do not attend church will be anti-democracy and anti-social members of society," the letter to Hawkins reads.
The video is by Harvard business professor Clayton Christensen, who reminisces about a conversation he had with a Chinese Marxist a few years back about the critical role religion plays in democracy.
