ORU Alumni Sing the National Anthem at the Republican National Convention

Are you watching the Republican National Convention tonight? If so, get ready for some Spirit-filled singing.

Oral Roberts University alumni Kelly Ford and Amick Byram are slated to sing the national anthem at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla.

Their performance with the group Seven is set for Thursday at 7:55 EST. The group will also be closing the evening with a performance of “What a Mighty Sound.”

The operatic group Seven also includes singers Charlie Harris, Frank Hernandez, John Cavazos, Phil Armstrong and Van Dobbins III.

Ford graduated from ORU in 1986 with a degree in sacred music. He appeared on Star Search in 1992 and went on to sing with the Voices of Liberty at Walt Disney World’s Epcot Center.

Ford has performed for many corporate meetings including, New York Life, Arby’s, Sonic, Chrysler, ConocoPhillips, Dollar Rent-A-Car, Thrifty Car Rental and The National Rifle Association. He has opened for many dignitaries and celebrities, including President George H.W. Bush, President George W. Bush, Colin Powell, Lee Iacocca, Paul Harvey, Charlton Heston and many others.

Byram graduated from ORU in 1977 with a degree in business administration and a minor in music. He sang the role of Moses in the animated feature film, The Prince of Egypt, and has performed in many stage productions including: Phantom of the Opera, (Broadway and LA), Les Miserables, (West Coast premiere at the Shubert Theater) in the roles of Marius and Enjolras, and in Sunset Boulevard as Joe Gillis playing opposite Glenn Close.

Byram is the recipient of two Grammy nominations for his vocal jazz album and has voiced characters in Shrek, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Pocahontas, Hercules, Mulan, El Dorado, and literally hundreds of other feature films. He can be heard on many television and radio commercials and as singing voices in more than 100 episodes of The Simpsons.
