Church Shooter Kills 2, Wounds One at Potluck Dinner in Alabama

A single gunman opened fire inside a suburban Alabama church Thursday evening, killing two people and wounding a third at a small group meeting before being taken into custody, authorities said.

The attack occurred at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church in the Birmingham suburb of Vestavia Hills, said Police Capt. Shane Ware. He said dispatchers got a call at around 6:20 p.m. reporting an active shooter there.

Ware said a suspect was detained and there was “no threat to the community at this time.” Police declined to identify the suspect or the victims, or provide further details on the attack, saying another briefing was planned Friday.

7 Things the Book of Revelation’s Throne Room Experience Teaches Us

Here are seven things the Book of Revelation’s throne room experience can teach you as a believer:

1. Knowing and worshipping God are the two most sought-after experiences in eternity. Revelation 4:4 (ESV) says, “Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders, clothed in white garments, with golden crowns on their heads.” The picture of 24 elders in worship before the throne is likely the presbytery of heaven. It represents all God’s people who worship and serve the Lord. Hence, the saints with the most authority in heaven desire nothing more than to be around the throne of God. Revelation 4:6-8 shows that angels, who have been with God from the beginning of their existence, are so much in awe of God that they never cease worshipping Him and always desire to be near Him.

This is a far cry from the dispassionate, lukewarm state of many Christians who must be urged to go to church and to daily spend time with God.

Kim Davis Vies for Religious Freedom in Appeals

Liberty Counsel filed its opening brief in the appeal to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of former Rowan County, Kentucky, Clerk Kim Davis. Davis was denied the motion for summary judgment by U.S. District Court Judge David Bunning in the cases of Ermold v. Davis and Yates v. Davis. Liberty Counsel argues that Davis is not liable for damages because she was entitled to a religious accommodation (which Gov. Matt Bevin and the legislature unanimously granted) from issuing marriage licenses that conflict with her religious beliefs.

Davis is a professing Christian who possesses a sincerely held religious belief and conviction, based on the Bible, which she believes to be the Word of God, that “marriage” is exclusively a union between one man and one woman. According to her beliefs, there is no union other than one man and one woman that is or can be called “marriage.” {eoa}
