Finnish Politician On Trial For Posting Bible Verse on Social Media
A Christian member of Parliament in Finland is on trial, fighting for freedom of speech and religion in court on Monday because she posted an image of a Bible passage to social media, which condemns homosexuality.
Päivi Räsänen has been under investigation since 2019 for her Bible verse post and is charged with three counts of hate speech against homosexuals.
Prosecutors said her comments violated the equality and dignity of homosexuals.

In a recent statement published on the annual celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life, Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson II, stated clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA), not only misrepresented and defamed Dr. King’s legacy, but he did so using some of the most vile antisemitic tropes singling out the Jewish people and Israel.
In his statement, Nelson wrote of King’s legacy and overcoming societal inequities in the U.S. and all over the world. Listing a broad range of social problems, Nelson then seamlessly pivoted into antisemitic lies, mentioning only Israel in a whole world of injustice:
The continued occupation in Palestine/Israel is 21st-century slavery and should be abolished immediately. Given the history of Jewish humble beginnings and persecution, there should be no ambiguity as to the ethical, moral and dehumanizing marginalization, and enslavement of other human beings. The United States of America must be a major influencer of calling this injustice both immoral and intolerable.
