Tyler Perry Pays for Senior-Hour Groceries at 44 Kroger Locations

Christian movie mogul Tyler Perry paid for groceries during senior hour in 44 Kroger locations across Louisiana and Georgia.

A Winn-Dixie representative also confirmed that Perry did the same thing in their stores.

Like many grocery stores around the country at this time, Kroger and Winn-Dixie both have “senior citizen hour,” which is a time when only seniors can shop. The goal of this practice is to decrease risk of contracting the coronavirus for those who are at higher risk while shopping.

Kroger confirmed Perry’s generous act on Twitter.

@tylerperry paid it forward and purchased groceries for nearly 3,000 senior shoppers today at Kroger stores across Atlanta,” the official Twitter account for Kroger posted. “You can see how much this means by the look on their faces. Thank you, Tyler, for your generosity!”

Winn-Dixie, likewise, took to Twitter to thank the donor.

“Thank you to our friend @tylerperry for paying it forward by purchasing groceries for elderly and high-risk #winndixie customers shopping at Louisiana stores this morning,” they wrote. “Winn-Dixie applauds your love for community and sincere generosity. #StrongerTogether #WinningTogether

Brendan Keefe, chief investigator at Atlanta’s WXIA 11Alive, posted several touching photos of seniors collecting their free groceries.

“CONFIRMED: @tylerperry paid for all groceries during Seniors Hour at 44 Atlanta-area @Kroger stores,” he wrote. “Look at these faces — you can see the smiles and tears through the masks!”

Good Morning America reports that Perry told the grocery store chains to simply say the bills were paid by an anonymous “angel.”

Perry is an actor, writer and producer. He’s well known for his role in Medea, and in 2011, Forbes listed him as the highest-paid person in the entertainment industry.{eoa}
