Over 200,000 Students to Proclaim Jesus on Football Fields Across USA

Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ student-led events focusing on prayer, worship and a commitment to Bible reading are set for Wednesday, Oct. 9, on 500-plus fields nationwide.

Some sports stories can unfortunately take on a negative focus, as headlines pinpoint matters such as locker room unrest, player indiscretions or holdouts on salaries.

But the national and international story of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ (FCA, www.fca.org) Fields of Faith is laser-focused on the positive—that God is good all the time and that He is raising up a young generation to see the world transformed by His Son, Jesus Christ.

The Fields of Faith events will offer hope in a world where students are faced with many challenges, such as hopelessness, loneliness, depression, suicide, drugs, alcohol and more.

“Fields of Faith is a student led event,” reads the event website. “Students invite, pray for, share with, and challenge their peers to read the Bible and follow Jesus Christ. An athletic field provides a neutral, rally point where a community can come together.”

The concept of Fields of Faith was born when Oklahoma FCA Area Director Jeff Martin prayed about how to help the younger generation deal with the spiritual battles facing them. The Holy Spirit led Martin to 2 Chronicles 34, where King Josiah as a young leader gathered the people of Israel and challenged them to read God’s Word.

In 2004, 6,000 students gathered on school athletic fields in Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas for Fields of Faith. Since then, hundreds of thousands of people have attended the annual event, with thousands coming to Jesus Christ.

“In a world where bad news seems to be the norm, we’re happy to share the great news that lives are being changed through Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ Fields of Faith,” said FCA Executive Director of Ministry Advancement Jeff Martin. “From the student leaders who take on the responsibility to bring Fields of Faith to their communities to the skeptical or hurting teen who might be attending for the first time, we see time and again that Fields of Faith motivates, energizes, rejuvenates and unites. Jesus takes hold of lives right there on the athletic fields, and we are continually amazed at what He does each year in young peoples’ lives.”
